Take part in upcoming events for the NATO summit

Members of the university community are invited to attend several events related to the upcoming NATO summit in which DePaul is participating or sponsoring.

The events include:

- The Discussion and Debate Society will host a debate on NATO in Chicago on May 9. There will be an opportunity for students to express their opinions on NATO in Chicago and to ask questions. The debate takes place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Richard M. and Maggie C. Daley Building, Room 1137, 14 E. Jackson Blvd. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

- DePaul, the Mexican Consulate, Global Initiatives and the United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring “G20: International Cooperation and Priorities” on May 10 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Room 8005 of the DePaul Center. The introduction will be offered by DePaul Economics Professor Animesh Ghoshal and the master of ceremonies will be Cristina Benitez, director of DePaul’s Latino Media Communication Program.

- J.D. Bindenagel, DePaul’s vice president for Community, Government and International Relations, will be a member of a panel focused on the theme: “Will the Eurozone’s “EZ-17” Save or Sink the Global Economy? International Economic Cooperation and the Western Financial Crisis.” The discussion takes place at 10:45 a.m. on May 11 in Northwestern University’s Wieboldt Hall, Room 147.

- DePaul’s Political Science Honorary Society, the Department of Political Science and the Humanities Center will host an event with Croatian Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Josip Paro in in celebration of Croatian-American Day on May 11 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the DePaul Center Room 8203.  The talk is titled “Croatia at 20.” Paro is a veteran diplomat and served in the Ministry of Defense as well as at the UN. He is eminently qualified to speak to the Balkan situation, security issues, challenges for a young state in Europe as well as issues relating to EU membership. Everyone is welcome. Light refreshments will be served.                           

- Prior to this event, join the city of Chicago as it holds events in the late morning and early afternoon at Daley Plaza.  Following the event there will be an evening of Croatian entertainment at the Croatian Hall on Devon. 

- DePaul is sponsoring a series of events with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. The series is titled “On the Summits: Perspectives from Global Leaders.” Reserve your space at all of the Chicago Council's “On the Summits” series programs with the Series Pass.

- In advance of and during the May 2012 NATO and G-8 summits, the Chicago Council will welcome international dignitaries for its “On the Summits” series. These events will provide a unique perspective outside the official meetings and may be your only opportunity to hear    directly from visiting world leaders.
