MAP rally

November 2009

Faculty, staff, students and alumni generated more than 3,000 contacts to state legislators, who voted to restore funding for the Monetary Award Program, or MAP grants, which benefit more than 4,600 DePaul students.

As many as 5,000 college students from across the state—including four busloads from DePaul—also helped make the case in Springfield on Oct. 15 for the grants that assist 137,000 of the state’s neediest college students.

University Picnic 2009

June 2009

About 800 faculty and staff celebrated the end of the school year during the university’s annual picnic. The Student Center, Room 120, was transformed into a tropical paradise for the Hawaiian luau-themed picnic, which featured traditional lei greeters and a Hawaiian-inspired feast, including Haupia (Hawaiian coconut pudding) and a whole suckling pig. Barefoot Hawaiian provided live entertainment, featuring hula dancers who gave faculty and staff the opportunity to join them on stage for a quick dance lesson. Fourteen prizes, including DePaul merchandise, electronics and restaurant vouchers, were raffled off during picnic.

Emeritus Society 2009

May 2009

The Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., president, thanked retired faculty and staff for their loyal service and for remaining active with the university community at the DePaul Emeritus Society's annual luncheon in Cortelyou Commons. The society awarded a scholarship to Elliot Pence, a junior Art and Art History major. The Rev. Edward Udovic, C.M., senior executive for University Mission, says the 220-member society serves an important purpose. ''It keeps retirees in contact with the university and the university in contact with retirees.''
